- Cruz, Antonio
- b. 1948, SevilleArchitectEven before qualifying as an architect, Cruz went into partnership in 1971 with his colleague Antonio Ortiz. They both completed their architectural studies in Madrid in 1974 and returned to Seville to continue their work. The architecture of Cruz and Ortiz is imbued with resonances of the modern movement, and they are particularly open to the idiom of Italian and Dutch rationalists. Scandinavian influence is also evident, especially in the meticulous approach to the design of apartment blocks, in which the partnership specializes. The complex in the Calle Doña Maria Coronel (Seville, 1978) is a good example. Their best-known work is the Santa Justa railway station (Seville, 1991–2), a largescale composition of great simplicity, reminiscent of the Termini station in Rome.See also: architects; architectureMIHAIL MOLDOVEANU
